New Collection - Titanium

As you may know (or maybe not) I like to experiment and use some unusual materials. My latest experiment is titanium wire. I know that some jewellers could produce absolutely fantastic items using this metal. I even bought some of them for myself. This what attracted me was the colour.

I was reading a lot about titanium, watching videos and tutorials and eventually decided to give it a go.

Titanium is not easy to work with. It is not really attractive as well. It cannot be soldered . It gets very brittle and easy to break when it is heated. Could be welded in no- oxygen environment. This is something I definitely can’t do in my little studio, so I have to go back to using wire wrapping and cold connections. I have to know my limits. When producer say that wire is soft, it is not as soft as copper or silver, it’s more like stainless steel.

But titanium has a great feature. This dark grey metal it could get bright, beautiful colours. And it is not difficult to achieve. The process called anodising and this is what I was doing today.

And the good news for people with allergies - titanium is hypoallergenic.

Please visit my website next week to see the collection of titanium pendants and earrings. If you are local, please come and see me during nearest craft fairs organised by Huntly Crafters in Gordon Arms Hotel in Huntly. Events will be held on 6th of November and 4th of December 9:00-15:00
